Plum Kalipso or Calypso – Ripe end July 2023
Calypso is an early-ripening plum ie end of July, variety that is self-fertile, meaning it does not need another plum tree nearby to pollinate it. It is a Polish selection that was created by crossing the Opal and Lepotika plums. Calypso is resistant to frost and drought, and it produces large annual harvests.
The fruits are freestone and are medium-sized, weighing 40-60 grams. They have an oval shape and a smooth, dense skin that is a rich dark blue (purple) colour. The flesh is yellow, dense, crispy, juicy, and sweet.
Considering hoe early they are, the fruits have an extraordinary taste, high yield, and transportability. They are suitable for eating fresh and making compotes, dried fruits, jam, and for freezing.
