Persimmons – July/August 2023
The persimmon tree is a beautiful sight in late July, with its delicate flowers and small, green fruit. The flowers are a pale yellow-green color, and they are clustered together in small groups. The fruit is still very small at this stage, but it is growing rapidly.
In the coming months, the fruit will continue to grow and ripen. The colour will change from green to orange, and the flesh will become soft and sweet. Persimmons can be eaten when they are ripe, or they can be left to ripen on the tree.
The variety of persimmon tree in this picture is not certain, but it is likely an Asian persimmon. Asian persimmons are typically larger and sweeter than American persimmons. They are also more astringent when they are unripe, but this bitterness will disappear as they ripen.
The flowering stage occurs in late spring or early summer. The flowers are small and delicate, and they have a sweet fragrance.

The fruit development stage begins after the flowers have been pollinated. The fruit will continue to grow and ripen throughout the summer. Here we have 3 little fruitlets, just forming, the flowers are dying and falling off.

Those fruitlets are now beginning to swell, and its 3 weeks after the flowers have opened, and they are much larger now.
