Graft Failure – May 2023

We occasionally have graft failures, normally they are due to 3rd parties, like pigeons, crows, wind, dog etc etc. But sometimes it due to us.

Here we have a plum scion graft, that looked good, but we could see there was a problem. The grafting tape had split, so we removed it. You could see daylight at top of the graft joint.

The bottom of the graft showed good callusing, and also up the rear side. But nothing at the top or the front. We still had time to regraft the existing scion to point lower on the rootstock. So nothing lost
