Small scale cider making in the kitchen

What am I going to do with those fallers then. I know make some cider. But how do I go about that. Any apples will do as long as ripe.

Well here you are, the simple steps in pictures.

Stage 1 - Processor and Apples
Stage 1 – Processor and Apples

Remember one full supermarket bag of apples, can make approx 1 gal of juice. Generally just clean the apples, getting rid of any bad ones and any leaves and dirt. Quarter them just to get them into the processor, and then pulp up.

Stage 2 - Pulped and ready for squeezing
Stage 2 – Pulped and ready for squeezing

Get yourself some netting. I went to a local haberdasher shop and bought a little bit of wedding mesh fabric.

Stage 3 - Start squeezing
Stage 3 – Start squeezing

Get your hands in and start squeezing, saving the juice in a non corrosive pan.

Stage 4 - Drain juice into 1 gal demi jon
Stage 4 – Drain juice into 1 gal demi jon

Its at this stage to decide if you want just juice or cider. For cider add a campden tablet to the demi jon, as per the manufacturers instructions. Then add yeast, any yeast will do apart from baking yeast. Add a sterilized airlock and keep it somewhere reasonably warm until fermentation ceases (possibly 2 weeks).

Hey presto its ready for drinking, Oh alright then bottling and maturing.
