Long hot dry spell, and then rain – Plums splitting

I cannot remember this ever happening. But this year, it has been quite hot and dry, followed by a sudden spell of rain. Not one variety but a number of nearly ripe varieties of plums, have started splitting. Making them very attractive to the wasps, but unusable.
