How can I tell if my Fig tree produces 2 crops ??

Two crops of figs are potentially produced each year, on certain varieties. Not all varieties are able to do this. The first crop develops in the spring on last year’s shoot growth. In the UK there is a tendency for them to drop off. In contrast, the main fig or 2nd crop, also known as Breba develops on the current year’s shoot growth and ripens in the late summer or fall. The main Breba crop is generally superior in both quantity and quality

The large one was produced in the spring (1st crop) and the smaller ones are set in summer and are the 2nd Breba crop. In the UK the 2nd crop on some varieties may not have enough time to grow and ripen, before autumn and winter arrives. This is where growing them in tubs comes into play. I move any that have a 2nd crop into my greenhouses or conservatory to gain the extra sunshine and warmth.
