Preston Hall, Pathhead, Midlothian Fig Collection supplied by gb-online.co.uk

The following varieties of figs were supplied over a 3 year period.

The intention of Kate Danesh the Senior Gardener at Preston Hall Pathhead Midlothian EH37 5UG www.prestonhall.co.uk is to create espaliers on a hot south facing outdoor wall in poor soil, and to grow some as cordons, which is commonly done in Japan.

Some others will be grown as ornamentals in a hot south-facing herbaceous border, and will be coppiced or pollarded to get lots of foliage and architectural interest.

The espaliers and cordons will be grown for fruit, but with the coppices the main goal is aesthetic.
