Perils of buying cheap Air Filters online – Stihl Strimmer equivalent
As everybody does nowadays, we always look for a more cost effective bargain. Well it was time for my annual service on my Stihl Strimmer.
Browsing the sites for a new filter, came up with a very competitively priced air filter on Ebay. Delivery was quick, and the installation was dead easy.
But after a bit, the engine started to run very lumpy. I could not put my finger on it, as the only thing that I had changed was the air filter.
So OK try the old filter back in again. When taking the air filter cover off instantly showed the problem.
Small bits of silicone or rubber.
The original Stihl air filter on the left, and cheap alternative on the right.
This does shows the problem, the silicone or rubber is just disintegrating. Probably this is due to the petrol fuel dissolving the rubber.
Moral of the story is BUYER BEWARE, you pay for what you get.
