Get rid of those pests and diseases

There is only one tried and tested way of getting rid of those pests and diseases. Do not put contaminated green stuff into the compost bin, or even send it to be recycled. Have a bonfire. It may not be environmentally sound for the atmosphere, but its a control without using chemicals.
